San Diego Mud Run, March 29, 2009
|
Team TAG ran in the San Diego Mud Run for the third year in a row,
competing against each other by running in teams of four with a total of
four teams registered for the event, alongside hundreds of other Southern
California runners gathered that day to take on the dusty, muddy
obstacle course for the 10k run. Funds were raised in support of two
charities: Rescue Task Force and Sonshine Haven, a children's charity of
San Diego. Bragging rights go to Team TAG's self-named "Big Guns", who's
team came in first among all the teams in competition present at the
Mud Run, clocking in with a time of 47 minutes for the entire 10k course.

Team TAG volunteered for its second Annual Thrift Shop Super Sale in May to
raise funds for the Club by selling goods donated directly to the Club and to
the Club Thrift Shop. A group of Team TAG volunteers and Club member kids
partnered up to man the sale by making signs to solicit business along Venice
and Lincoln Boulevards, operate tables of goods and to answer questions for
the local shoppers. Team TAG brought their knowledge of sales skills to teach
the kids how to approach and help customers, as well as to bargain and to
close a sale. Overall, the sale raised $4,000 for the Club.
Special thanks go out to the clothing lines TapouT, Toe2Toe and Fight Chix for
donating a total of $2,800 worth of merchandise for the sale. These T-Shirts
and caps were a hot sale item at this particular fund raiser, and the Club
appreciates the generosity of these companies. Club kids that volunteered
got a special reward for their participation in the event by having their
choice of a T-Shirt and cap to keep from one of the above clothing lines.
Jaime and JoAnne snagged a photo with Lamar Odom's father, who
stopped by the sale while on a Saturday bike ride through the neighborhood.

Basketball Mania at the Boys & Girls Club of Venice, August 15, 2009
|
The Boys & Girls Club of Venice sponsored an event to get the kids and
families together for some competitive rounds of basketball. Hundreds of kids
and parents showed up to play basketball, get their faces painted and play
in the game room on the pool and foosball tables while enjoying pizza and
sports drinks. Team TAG brought a team of twenty volunteers to help coach
and referee the many teams of kids, with four games of basketball going on
simultaneously.
A special appearance by the Laker's Jordan Farmer highlighted the night for
the kids. He gave words of encouragement to the kids on following their
dreams and never giving up.

For the third year in a row Team TAG participated in the Annual
Thanksgiving Dinner hosted by the Boys & Girls Club of Venice, serving the
Club member's families for the holiday. Team TAG brought 30 volunteers to
help serve the 350 guests in attendance. The dinner is a very carefully
orchestrated event, and the staff at the Boys & Girls Club do an excellent
job in making sure the families are able to enjoy a quality, traditional
Thanksgiving dinner, complete with turkey and pumpkin pie. Our
volunteers had a blast serving all the kids and their parents, and
interacting with the community at such a festive and fun event.

Fall Gala and Silent Auction, Boys & Girls Club of Venice, October 2, 2009
|
For the second year in a row, Team
TAG brought their manpower to
the Boys & Girls Club of Venice's
Fall Gala, hosted by Kevin Frazier of
Entertainment Tonight. Our
volunteers manned the Silent
Auction tables, and became
merchandise runners once the
Auction was closed. This fund
raiser brought in over $250,000 for
the Club, and is the Club's largest
yearly event.
You are invited to participate with us in providing smiles to 10 children in need of an operation to repair cleft
lip and cleft palates. To make a donation to this amazing charity, please visit our fund raising page:
Team TAG and Operation Smile
We at Team TAG feel very strongly about helping those in need. Our young staff members are from all around
the world, and we know how lucky we are to be living in California. We want to make a difference in the
world - especially for young kids in 3rd World Countries.
Operation Smile appeals to us because our efforts have an immediate impact. For every $240 that we raise,
one child will receive an operation that will turn around his or her life. The individual will no longer be shunned
in society, and will then have the confidence to pursue living a normal life - hopefully making positive impacts
to everyone around him or her. ("Pay it forward")
Please support our effort.
Together, we will change lives.
Operation Smile mobilizes a world of generous hearts to heal children’s smiles and transform lives across the
globe. Operation Smile’s network of volunteers works worldwide to repair childhood facial deformities
including cleft lips and cleft palates.
I hope you'll help me bring hope to even more children and their communities.

Homeless Project - April, 2010
|
These 20 teenagers from the Boys & Girls Club of Venice gave their time and attention to help the homeless in Venice Beach, partnering with volunteers from Team TAG. We rewarded the volunteers with $6,000 worth of gift cards for their work, service and volunteer spirit.
